Inky Echoes

Inside the pages of a child’s diary, memories don’t stay quiet.
This is a narrative top-down experience that takes place in the illustrated journal of a 9-year-old girl living with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Every scene is drawn as if cut from paper, fragile, personal, and unfinished, because the world you explore exists only through her drawings and thoughts.
You play as a small paper character wandering through her home, moving between emotional states shaped by the people around her. A calm walk through familiar rooms slowly shifts as encounters with family members trigger anger, anxiety, and emotional numbness. Each state changes how the character moves, how the environment reacts, and how safe the world feels.
As reality becomes overwhelming, the girl escapes through an air vent — a space to “vent out” — falling into a void where thoughts take physical form and chase her through a surreal inner world.
This project explores childhood perception, emotional fragmentation, and the way environments transform through feeling rather than fact.
